NHS England leads the National Health Service (NHS) in England. We set the priorities and direction of the NHS and encourage and inform the national debate to improve health and care.
The NHS England analytical community is multi-disciplinary, including staff experienced in front-line NHS analysis, economics, statistics, operational research and social research. NHS England analysts provide analysis, insight and evidence, and data-based products to support decision-making across all areas of NHS England's business, realising NHS England's commitment to the use of evidence, analysis and research to improve decision making in our key operations.
The analytical community consists of around 250 analysts across the organisation. The majority of NHS England analysts work within teams in the Commissioning Strategy Directorate, the Finance Directorate and the Operations and Information Directorate. There are a number of other analysts embedded within other teams and directorates across NHS England. The analytical teams work closely together and frequently collaborate to achieve the best outcomes in our work.
Within the analytical community we are committed to professional development of analysts across NHS England and to putting learning at the front and centre of how we work. We have recently been moving through a programme of organisational development called “Ways of Working”. As part of this we have developed a Knowledge and Skills Framework, put in place a comprehensive training brochure to support development and implemented a series of analytical academy events over lunchtime to improve wider analytical skills and knowledge of the NHS.
